What is Pupil Premium?

The pupil premium is extra money for schools to help disadvantaged pupils of all abilities achieve their full potential. The amount of pupil premium funding schools receive is decided by how many disadvantaged pupils they have – schools receive funding per pupil premium-eligible child. The government has committed to supporting all disadvantaged pupils in England and have put in place support, such as the pupil premium, for schools to address the challenges to success that these pupils face.

At Wellesbourne Primary and Nursery School our aim is to ensure that all children are able to access all aspects of the school’s provision in order to achieve the highest standards of achievement and make the greatest rates of progress possible in relation to their individual starting points. We can use the money provided to us from the government to make sure that any gaps between our disadvantaged and non-disadvantaged pupils are narrowed.

Our Pupil Premium Strategy 

Our pupil premium strategy is founded on the following principles and practices:

• We use a tiered approach to Pupil Premium spending as it helps us to balance approaches to improving teaching, targeted academic support, and wider strategies such as social and emotional barriers to learning.
• We focus on a small number of priorities each year in areas that are likely to make the biggest difference, with a focus on effective implementation.
• The approaches we choose are selected on the basis of strong external evidence and reflect the ‘menu of approaches’ as identified by the Department for Education their ‘Using pupil premium: guidance for school leaders’ guidance.
• We consider a broad array of external evidence to inform our decision making, and this helps to enhance the expert knowledge we have of the pupils in our care.
• Our pupil premium strategy is embedded within a broader strategic implementation cycle, this includes, but is not limited to, the schools improvement plan, schools sports spending plan and curriculum target setting, our strategy is based around high quality teaching.

• our intended outcomes – what we are aiming for by the end of our current strategy plan, and how we will measure whether they have been achieved
