PE kits for 5RB are needed on: Wednesday

Homework and Spellings

Homework is handed out every Friday – which will include activities to secure learning from class activities. The tasks will be based around English/Spelling, Maths and occasionally may take the form of a learning log (research based, child-led tasks about a specific subject).

Homework MUST be returned by Wednesday of the following week – a record is kept of this. Children who miss three homework tasks will lose a playtime.

At the start of the year, the year 5/6 spelling list is handed out. Please ensure you are practicing these with your child regularly.

Reading

All children have a home reading book. Please ensure you are reading with your child regularly on a weekly basis, discussing new words and developing understanding of texts, as well as filling in their reading record. Upon every book being complete, your child will be given a book review to complete before receiving their next book.

Every 30 pages your child reads, they will progress a step on our Year 5 ‘Reading Around the World’ chart. After 90 pages, your child will receive 30 Wellies! The aim is for your child to progress around the entire world at least once throughout the year. If they travel around the world once, they gain a star by their photo. If they travel around twice, they receive a passport!

Hometime

Children may walk home by themselves with parental permission, a letter must be handed into the office or to the class teacher. Children that do walk home by themselves should not be staying on the school grounds after 3.15pm. If your child is being picked up by another person that is not on our contact list you need to ring and tell the school so that we are aware.

Our work and trips

This is our Year 5 Curriculum long term plan of what we will be looking at in all of our subjects over the year.

This is when our families came in to see what we had been doing in class and to work with us for a lesson.

This is 5RB have been learning to follow tricky instructions to be able to play card games for their English work unit on instructions.

For Black history month we had a Visit from Levi Tafari who is a
Liverpool poet.

For Mental Health awareness week we had some special visitors come in to work with us on our mental health.

This was our trip to the World museum in town in October. We got to look around the museum and then had a special interactive talk on Ancient Egypt.

In ICT we have been looking at photography using lenses such as macro which allows us to see things in fine detail and fish eye which creates a sphere shape to our photographs.

Miss Burns is our Phase 4 Leader. The curriculum is currently adapting to follow the new National Curriculum which became statutory in September 2014.
