Meet the Teachers

Our Year 4 team consists of Miss Maher (4CM Teacher), Mrs Gerrard (4HG Teacher), Miss Wall (Teaching Assistant), Mrs Evans (Teaching Assistant) and Miss Limb (Teaching Assistant) . Any of our Year 4 team will be happy to talk to you about your child’s needs and interests.

PE

Year 4 have PE with our Coach Brian. PE is a compulsory subject and children are expected to wear the correct kit. Year 4 PE is on a Thursday morning; please ensure that your child’s name is on ALL items of clothing. These lessons help to develop physical skills, team work and co-operation.

Homework and Spellings

Homework is given out every Friday and is to be returned completed by the following Wednesday. Homework will include activities from that weeks lessons to consolidate and secure that week’s learning. Times Table Rock Stars is to be completed regularly as part of your child’s homework in preparation for their Multiplication Tables Check.

Spellings are given out every Friday and are tested the following Friday. Please ensure to go through your child’s spellings for the week.

Reading

Reading is a fundamental aspect of children’s learning. Please make sure that your child brings their book bag to school every day along with their home reading books and reading record. Please read with your child at least 3 times per week and remember to comment and sign their reading record. This will allow staff to see how much your child is reading and enables school and home to work together in promoting your child’s reading journey. Year 4 Curriculum (document opens in new window)

Whilst in Year 4 your child will take part in a multiplications table check. The purpose of the check is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It will help schools to identify pupils who have not yet mastered their times tables, so that additional support can be provided.

Schools will have a 3-week check window in June to administer the check. Teachers will have the flexibility to administer the check to individual pupils, small groups or a whole class at the same time. For more information on the multiplication check please click here.
