At Wellesbourne Primary and Nursery School, we believe that strong foundations in mathematics are essential for every child’s confidence and long-term success. Our maths curriculum is carefully structured to build deep understanding, fluency and problem-solving skills from the very start. We use White Rose Maths as our main scheme of work, ensuring lessons are coherent, progressive and rooted in clear mathematical concepts, with opportunities for children to reason and apply their learning in a range of contexts. Alongside this, we use the Maths Number Sense – Number Facts Fluency Programme to help children develop strong number sense. The programme supports pupils to build quick and confident recall of key number facts, which helps them become more fluent and accurate in their calculations. Through short, regular practice and engaging activities, children strengthen their understanding of number, improve their mental maths skills and grow in confidence. This combination allows us to meet the needs of all learners, helping every child to build confidence, resilience and a genuine enjoyment of mathematics.

Below, we have set out the key knowledge and skills that we expect children to secure, before moving onto more complex tasks in mathematics.
