Personal Development at Wellesbourne Primary

At Wellesbourne, Personal Development is the golden thread that ties our entire curriculum together. It shapes our ethos, guides our expectations and ensures every child grows into a confident, resilient and well‑rounded learner. Through our PSHE curriculum, enriching trips and visits, a vibrant range of clubs, and our engagement with the Children’s University Programme, we support pupils to develop essential skills for life.

PSHE and Character Education

Our PSHE curriculum helps pupils develop the knowledge and character needed to thrive both now and in the future. This includes:

  • Physical and mental wellbeing – understanding emotions, building resilience and making healthy choices.
  • Positive relationships – learning respect, empathy, diversity and how to nurture healthy friendships.
  • Life beyond school – digital safety, financial understanding, responsibility in the community and preparation for future learning.

A strong focus on character development runs throughout our curriculum, truly acting as the golden thread that binds every aspect of school life together.

Trips, Visits and Experiences

We provide a wide range of trips and experiences that bring learning to life and broaden pupils’ horizons, including:

  • Curriculum-linked visits that deepen understanding
  • Outdoor and adventurous experiences, including residentials
  • Theatre, museum and cultural trips
  • Opportunities to explore and contribute to the local community

These experiences help pupils develop independence, teamwork and curiosity—strengthening the golden thread of personal growth that runs through our entire provision.

Clubs and Enrichment

We offer an exciting and diverse programme of clubs to spark interest, build confidence and develop new talents. Pupils can take part in:

  • Art Club
  • Darts Club
  • Chess Club
  • Choir
  • Debate Club
  • Football
  • Gymnastics
  • Running Club
  • Spanish Cookery
  • Dodgeball
  • Games Club
  • Dance and Drama

These activities encourage pupils to discover passions, work together and challenge themselves in new and enjoyable ways.

Children’s University Programme

We are proud to be part of the Children’s University Programme, which celebrates commitment to learning beyond the classroom. Through participation in clubs, trips and enrichment activities, pupils earn Children’s University credits that count towards special awards and a celebratory graduation ceremony.

This partnership encourages children to try new experiences, develop lifelong interests and recognise the value of taking part in learning wherever it happens. We provide families with access to our school’s dedicated Children’s University page, where they can track progress, explore approved activities and support their child’s journey towards graduation.
